While working on the design of a new overhead display unit, we realized that we needed a reliable way to test voltage, current and frequency. We looked at the voltmeter and current meter options available in the market, but none of them seemed to have all the features we required. In addition we wanted an option that could display frequency. After searching for an ideal instrument with no success, we decided to build our own VAF Meter! The LCD VAF Meter is based on an Arduino UNO microcontroller and a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) module which is interfaced using I2C protocol. The I2C protocol facilitates communication between microcontroller and LCD module. The touch screen allows the user to enter values for voltage, current and frequency. The data entered by the user is displayed on the LCD screen along with additional information about the status of the device like power supply status, battery level etc. The instrument also has a built-in buzzer which can be used to generate different audible frequencies from 0 Hz to 50 kHz. The buzzer can be used for tuning musical instruments such as guitars or pianos .The buzzer feature can be disabled if not required. The buzzer circuit uses an Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp)
